If I want to use the latest or recent version of calf but I don’t know how to compile, can’t I just copy the plugins folder from a distro that has a version of calf that I want. For example I know AVLinux has a more recent version of calf.
I fear that not, but maybe worth a try, no clue. But building is quite easy, which distro?
I have Ubuntu 19.04 but Ubuntu based distros I’m general
For this OS the build procedure is described perfectly well on the website.
Prerequisites:
apt-get install libtool autoconf libexpat1-dev libglib2.0-dev libfluidsynth-dev jackd libjack-dev lv2core libglade2-dev lv2-dev
Download the source via git:
git clone https://github.com/calf-studio-gear/calf.git
OR download the source package from here and unpack:
http://calf-studio-gear.org/files/calf-0.90.2.tar.gz
Then change to the folder containing the souce, build and install:
cd calf
./autogen.sh
make -j2
sudo make install
Make -j2 fit the amount of cores your processor has.
Thanks I’ll try this out
this is what i get when i sudo the prerequisites, ill try to see if someone else has a binary to install, as this is confusing for me and time consuming to figure out.

Package lv2core is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However, the following packages replace it:
lv2-dev:i386 lv2-dev
E: Package ‚lv2core‘ has no installation candidate
Hey,
it’s just that the package lv2-core now is named lv2-dev, so just change the last package name in the install command.
Best
