M.eik Michalke and his team decided to revive the Open Music Contest – a contest for strictly Creative Commons-licensed music:
http://www.openmusiccontest.org/
It was organized by the „Musikpiraten“ – a subdivision of the political party „Die Piraten“ here in germany – for a couple of years now, operating under the name „Free!Music!Contest!“ for bands localized in germany only. This year it will be the first time that this contest operates on a global scale – every Creative Commons musician in the world is invited to take part.
All of my bands joined the contest as long as it exists now and made it on the CD year after year. This time unfortunately I don’t have any band so my support in 2015 amounts to nothing more than announcing the event.
To get things up and running M.eik initiated a crowd funding campaign:

So if you feel like supporting free music is a cool attitude please donate a couple of bucks to them.
And now go on and rock the freaking house! At best with music produced exclusively in Linux 😉

Thank you very much!! You're doing an essential job for the development of open source software! The following points aren't meant as dogmas but as a clue, decide for yourself what you think could be useful in troubleshooting.
- Please...
- ...state name and version of your operating system / desktop environment
- ...state the version of the program you're using
- ...be detailed in what is happening and what you expected to happen
- ...try to provide some deeper information (like xplanetFX logs or the output of the program when started in a terminal window)
- ...speak to me as a human being, don't think I'm a bot.
Herzlichen Dank!!
- ...beschreibe möglichst genau, was passiert und was Du erwartest, was passieren sollte
- ...stelle möglichst tiefergehende Informationen zur Verfügung (xplanetFX Logs oder die Ausgabe des Programms im Terminalfenster)
- ...sprich mit mir, wie mit einem Menschen, ich bin kein Automat.

thanks for helping us 🙂
just for clarification: the original OpenMusicContest was never associated with any political party. it used to be supported by the student’s union of the university of marburg, germany. when we left the university, we founded a friendly society called OpenMusicContest.org e.V. to keep going. in 2009 we announced we would pause with organising contests, to get active in the field of collecting societies, resulting in the C3S. it was this announcement which led to the foundation of Musikpiraten e.V. and them continuing with the „Free!Music!Contest!“ where we stopped. the Musikpiraten are now supporting our efforts to have another OMC this year, so it’s a bit like a family reunion 🙂
