I made a mistake, it was every 20minutes, not 30 seconds, I recived the notifications, ie each times the wallpaper is reloaded.

After check then uncheck the box, reload the service, the notifications do not appear anymore.

thank you very much for the bug report. To take a closer look I need to know a little more about your configuration, so if you please could edit the executable to throw some debug information it would be really helpful.

sudo gedit /usr/bin/xplanetFX

and change line 8 to

DEBUG=1

save and execute “xplanetFX” in a terminal once. When the rendering process is finished please paste the complete output to a pastebin of your choice (e.g. pastebin.com) and post me the link. After that you can change the DEBUG setting back to 0.

I’m using xplanetFX 2.4.12 on Ubuntu 12.04 (but the problem was already here in the 10.04), with GNOME (panel and shell). Every 30 seconds, I’ve got two unexcepted notifications saying “xplanetFX Wallpaper renewed in 30 seconds.”, the other one “xplanetFX Renewal of wallpaper…” send by notify-send. But in the software, in the settings panel, the box “Notification Notify GNOME Users with OSD (needs libnotify” is not check.

How could I stop this ?

thank you very much for the bug report. The autostart problem is fixed in 2.4.12. For using the UI you need to have pythons gobject installed, seems there are some dependencies missing in arch. Would be nice if you could mention it to the arch maintainers. There are no other views available than a photorealistic earth because that’s the intended use of xplanetFX. For other projections you could use xplanet itself.

I’m using Arch and XFCE, just installed your program via the AUR (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=43649). It appears that everything works fine after “xplanetFX –setup” except for the autostart script and the gui.

If I manually add the link in the XFCE startup section, it works ok.

Regarding the GUI, an icon appears in my X menu but doesn’t do anything. Running “xplanetFX –gui” in a terminal displays the error below.

Finally, is there a way to use other-than orthographic projections? Perhaps once the GUI is working for me this will be answered, but I’m curious regardless.
