xplanetFX renders high quality wallpapers of mother earth on your desktop. An extensive GUI (GTK) provides a lot of features and settings. Various templates place the planet inside different scenes and make shure your desktop never gets boring again. With realtime light, shadows and clouds!

traGtor is a graphical user interface for the awesome conversion tool ffmpeg. With multi streams, presets, multi language and a lot of other features traGtor is a handy tool for converting all audio and video formats through ffmpeg. traGtor is based on GTK and Python.

Calf studiogear is an extensive and high quality plugin pack for professional audio production under Linux. It provides a lot of synthesizers, effects and signal processing for the use with LV2 audio production suites (like Ardour) or as stand-alone through JACK.

Calf with all of its new features and processors isn't officially released by now so you have to grab the GIT-repository from sourceforge.net until we are ready for a stable release.

xplanetFX: New template „Mate“

mate-light mate-darkI decided to try the Mate desktop environment after struggling one and a half years with KDE (Gnome 3 or Unity are out of question) and before I maybe try a switch to enlightment/xfce/lxde and the like (after some guys with an addiction to tablets decided to shoot the best DE ever – Gnome 2 – in the back perfidiously ^^)

Mate seems to be very promising in becoming a fully functional desktop anytime soon and it seems that my current tests are in splendid progress so I decided to create kind of a „branded“ xplanetFX theme for my system.

Dear Mate-Team: You guys fuckingly rock. Keep up the good work, please .)

ImageMagick 6.7.7 broken

The actual default ImageMagick package in Debian (and so in Ubuntu, too I bet) seems to be broken. It changes contrast/gamma without any reason (before and after a simple „convert test.png test2.png“).

In xplanetFX it gets visible through „thin“, grey and less clouds.

Compiling the package from source doesn’t change anything because the error seems to be located in imagemagick-common (which is much more complicated to build).

If you are on Debian the most simple fix is to add the experimental repositories temporarily and install the package from there:

  • Add deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian experimental main to your sources.list
  • execute sudo apt-get update
  • execute sudo apt-get -t experimental install imagemagick
  • remove or comment (#) the deb line again
  • execute sudo apt-get update once more
  • ???
  • PROFIT!

xplanetFX 2.5.9: Battery State

This version introduces a check for the state of the battery in a notebook skipping a render cycle while the battery discharges. You can enable this feature (which requires the program „acpi“ which isn’t contained in the list of dependencies to keep it optional) in the user interface on the settings tab.
