M.eik Michalke and his team decided to revive the Open Music Contest – a contest for strictly Creative Commons-licensed music:
It was organized by the „Musikpiraten“ – a subdivision of the political party „Die Piraten“ here in germany – for a couple of years now, operating under the name „Free!Music!Contest!“ for bands localized in germany only. This year it will be the first time that this contest operates on a global scale – every Creative Commons musician in the world is invited to take part.
All of my bands joined the contest as long as it exists now and made it on the CD year after year. This time unfortunately I don’t have any band so my support in 2015 amounts to nothing more than announcing the event.
To get things up and running M.eik initiated a crowd funding campaign:
So if you feel like supporting free music is a cool attitude please donate a couple of bucks to them.
And now go on and rock the freaking house! At best with music produced exclusively in Linux 😉
Lately I gave an interview to Conor Mc Cormack, the head behind Libre Music Production, which was published today:
Big Up to Conor for all his efforts he puts into giving Linux Audio a professional, informative and substantial platform.
I don’t get in contact with this kind of software that much but when I do it nearly always draws a smile onto my face – like it did recently: as I looked at my webstats today I mentioned that I again forgot to harden my WordPress against those poor people who got hijacked for taking part in massive botnet bruteforce attacks. „Harden“ simply means to rename wp-login.php to something else while putting an empty file with that name into place.
Thats no reason to write a blog post about – the fun fact in this story is that the numbers of attackers on wp-login.php exactly corresponds to an unusual high amount of connections via a certain operating system:
|1||25975||Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:26.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/26.0|
I don’t have to mention that there’s no browser involved in these attacks, it is done by some scripts running as „services“ in the background connecting through curl and the like. So the important information in this entry is the operating system used:
Windows NT 6.3
A closer look into the Wiki reveals the commonly known name of it: „Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows 8.1 Enterprise, Windows RT 8.1“
So either those script kiddies have a good sense of humor (which I bet is the case) or the brand new (bugfix-)Windows is a bigger fail than anyone expected (which is also the case).
I re-installed the whole server some time ago because I fucked up apt while updating from stable to unstable. I just forgot to install all the dependencies my workflow for providing a signed repository requires so there were some issues with the gpg key. Should be okay again after being broken for a couple of days/weeks now (have been to Fehmarn with a couple of friends these days), thanks for your patience.
Whatever happened – this site was listed by google as a honeypot for spreading malware or the like lately. I checked the server, the website and the content – everything is fine, no hack, no malicious comments – nothing.
So until I retreat to googles enforcement to create a webmaster tools account to let them „check“ my site I will wait some time.
Feel free to stop visiting this blog because of googles „findings“ – I’m fine with it – trust whoever you like to.
Thanks a lot to Thopter for pointing this out!
